Naked Rivalee: I hadn't given it a thought yet! Thanks for the suggestion. What do you like about Pirate Weather?
Hamish Basically "Forecast and historic weather data in the Dark Sky style, built using a documented and open-source approach". I like that it's built on NOAA models but is more discreet in terms of precipitation forecasting than NWS forecast. And I was really bummed when Apple gobbled up Dark Sky and disappeared it.
Naked Rivalee: Thanks for the tip! Sounds like you've used weather APIs a lot. I'll take a good luck at Pirate Weather when I implement this :)
Hamish I don't really use the APIs, just the front-ends. But I do have to be very weather aware for my job and this service seems so far to be a decent balance of accuracy and detail (and open). NWS forecast for example has a low refresh rate and low resolution (6hr blocks) precipitation forecast. Weather.com/Wunderground on the other hand has a highly detailed forecast but I think the forecast is updated something like every 15min leading to sometimes oddly inaccurate precipitation forecasts at times. The other service I like is Foreca.
What provider would you use? I would suggest looking at Pirate Weather.
